Ready to work for you

      Raised in Southwest Virginia, Julianne is a proud product of Washington County Public Schools.  She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1982 and then attended the University of Georgia.  She graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army.  She went on to serve 11 years in the Transportation Corps, including assignments in Germany, and with the 101st Airborne Division from Fort Campbell, Kentucky.   She served two combat tours and earned a Bronze Star for her service in the Gulf War/Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.  She was a company commander of a line haul truck company during her second combat tour in Somalia, during Operation Restore Hope. 

Julianne continued her education after leaving the service, earning a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Troy University in Alabama.  She has taught at many grade levels at both public and private schools here in Virginia and in Department of Defense Schools overseas.  She has experience with school improvement planning, Special needs and Gifted education, and home schooling. 

In addition to her professional experience, Julianne has spent many hours over the years volunteering in support of military communities to improve the lives of deployed soldiers and their families.  She currently volunteers in the local community and is active in several civic organizations.   Julianne has been married to her husband Vernon for 32 years.  They have two children, Vernon Miles, III and Emily Miles.
